Expression Leader Role Description
The primary focus of your Expression is making disciples of Jesus who make disciples.
With this focus, the goal is to facilitate the ongoing discipleship of the saints in your Expression, the development of your MC Leaders and multiplication of their MC’s.
Personal Discipleship
- Daily prayer and reflection on the gospel in your own life. (What is God saying and teaching you today?)
- Regular time in the Word (What are you studying? What are you learning?)
- Regular, generous financial giving to SC (tithing minimally)
- Participation in 10 of 12 monthly MC Leaders trainings (or engage 80% of the training if delivered differently)
- Participation in Soma School (once before leading an Expression)
- Lead in and participate fully in the life of a MC and fulfill all other MC Leader role requirements
- Affirm calling toward eldership (if not already an Elder)
- Regular communication with other Elders, Expression Leaders and the SC Apostolic Team
- Personal Quarterly Evaluation and Annual Review/Assessment

Leading Leaders in Discipleship
- Identify a tri-perspectival leadership team with Character, Capacity and Competence
- Facilitate a monthly leadership development time and leaders meeting
- Delegation of Expression leadership roles & responsibilities among leaders; provide accountability
- Ensure that the MC Leaders in your Expression have facilitated the use of the MRI for each person and developed a personal discipleship plan for each
- Monthly coaching appointments (and mid-month check-ins) with each of your MC Leaders helping them effectively accomplish and grow in their MC Leaders Role (using the Role Description as a guide)
- Facilitation and guidance toward each MC in your Expression multiplying at least once per year
- Facilitate and lead the stewardship of human resources among leadership team i.e. “who is doing what/when; how many leaders are out of community at one time;
- Coordinate necessary teaching times with appropriate teacher/preachers (run past Vanderstelt as needed)
- Lead MC Leaders through gospel-centered finance and budgeting training once a year
- Prayer for each MC in your Expression – weekly at minimum (Keep a prayer journal including 3 things:
- 1) Prayer requests you have made to God on a persons behalf; 2) Answered prayers; 3) What God is saying to you about that MC and/or its leaders.
Leading a Community of Disciples
- I&R Diagnostic (monthly) of Identity and Rhythms being lived out effectively as an Expression and facilitating regular time to celebrate the “wins” and evidences of grace in each of the I&R; (how are we doing at living out our Identity in gospel rhythms in our Expression?)
- Facilitate the shepherding of the Expression's children/youth and the discipling of parents to shepherd their kids
- Regularly leading your Expression in:
- Prayer for not-yet-believers
- Serving not-yet-believers as a demonstration of the gospel
- Speaking/sharing the gospel verbally
- Facilitate community discipleship/training times that equip and address “most needed” issues for the Expression as a whole
- Gather the MC’s in a combined gathering (minimum once a month) for celebration, equipping, communion
- Lead the Expression toward faithfulness in financial stewardship/giving (with the goal of being able to support 1.5 full-time leaders in the future)
- Lead community to increasingly radically reorient their lives around gospel mission

Prayerfully read through 1 Timothy 3.
How am I doing at growing in these areas? Am I regularly affirming the call to eldership in my life through the Word, the Spirit and my community?
Is my love for the Word growing?
Do I increasingly desire to spend time in the Word and do I find myself drawing wisdom and strength form the Word daily?
Am I growing in the awareness of my own sinfulness and need for grace?
Am I growing in my ability to clearly articulate the gospel in any setting?
Am I protecting the "eye gate"?
Particularly in not participating in the viewing of pornography?
Am I trusting the Holy Spirit to guide and strengthen me in leading this Expression?
Or am I doing it in the flesh and feeling burned out?)
Do I feel joy, excitement, confidence, awe and gratitude when I talk/think about Jesus?
Do I live with a confidence that: God is great –So I do not have to be in control

Do I live with a confidence that: God is good –So I do not have to look elsewhere

- I sometimes feel ministry is a burden
- I often complain
- I make people feel a burden of duty
- I don’t stick at things and complete projects or tasks
Do I live with a confidence that: God is gracious –So I do not have to prove myself
Indicators that I may not be believing this:
- I take criticism and failure badly
- find it hard to relax
- I am proud or envy the success of others
- I make people feel guilty

- Have you been having regular date nights with your wife?
- How are you doing at leading your wife (and kids) spiritually?
- Are you closer and more intimate with your wife now than you were 6 months ago?
